The Borderline Brewers Homebrewing club was founded in September of 1991. Borderline Brewers come from many different backgrounds and cover an age span from early twenties to golden years; what we all have in common is the enjoyment of the great many beer styles of the world and an interest in making them ourselves. Many of the beer styles we cover are uncommon or unavailable in the United States. As far as brewing skill and experience go, our members range from curious non-brewers (or "pre-brewers") to seasoned all-grain brewers to professional microbrewers and everything in between. We are registered with the American Homebrewers Association, and participate in the AHA's "Club Only" homebrew competitions.
The Borderline Brewers meet on the second Saturday of each month, usually beginning at 6 pm, at the home of one of our members. The meetings are organized around a tasting of the Beer of the Month (BOM), based on a schedule set at the beginning of each calendar year. The purpose of the advance schedule is to encourage as many members as possible to brew the selected styles and have them ready for that meeting. The club will provide commercial examples of the Beer of the Month for purposes of comparison with our homebrew versions.
The club is a great way to learn about the different beer styles of the world and how to make them yourself. Most meetings also include a presentation about some particular aspect of the hobby. All of the seriousness happens early in the meeting, after which we concentrate on sharing our brews and brewing ideas in a relaxed, sociable atmosphere that almost always includes a pot-luck buffet.
Good
